Cobia World Championships

From March 24 to May 8, join anglers from around the world as they compete for prize money and bragging rights at the Cobia World Championships sponsored by Destin Realty. This event is the highlight of the Spring season for fishing professionals and amateurs alike.

Spring time in Destin means one thing for fishing fanatics... COBIA! This unique (and quite tasty) fish migrates along the northern waters of the Gulf of Mexico when ocean temperatures start to warm up in the spring months between March and May. What separates cobia fishing from other types of fishing is the way in which anglers "hunt" this fish. Unlike trolling or bottom fishing, cobia fishing requires the fish to be spotted first, then attempts are made to catch it. Boats equipped with towers offer anglers the best view for spotting cobia. It's a very common site to see dozens of boats throughout the day running parallel to the coast with multiple spotters in the boat's tower looking for cobia.
